Enjoy the many uses and treatments of Raw Frankincense Resin Tears

Frankincense Tea

Ingredient:
- Purified water
- 2 grams powdered resin 
- Optional desired sweetener: sugar, honey or Mable syrup
- Optional: Lemon or other citrus

Directions:
Begin by brining 1 cup of water to a boil
Add 2 grams of ground Frankincense resin to a disposable tea bag or desired filter strainers
Place tea bag in cup
Pour the heated water over the teabag/strainer  and steep 3-5 minutes or to taste. (Note Frankincense resin is not water soluble . It will not dissolve completely.)
Add desired sweetener.
Lemon or other citrus may be added if desired
Serve hot or cold.

Frankincense Water

Ingredients: 
- Purified water
- Frankincense resin (whole or powdered)

Directions:
Begin by placing Frankincense tears at bottom of a 1 gallon glass jar or bottle (powder may also be used instead of whole resin tears to encourage active constitutes to dissolve more readily.)
Fill jar with purified water and cover with lid
Allow jar to stil for 12 hours away from direct sunlight                                                  
(Note: Frankincense resin is not water soluble. It will not dissolve completely.)
Pour off water and serve. Remaining water should be refrigerated.  Leave resin at bottom of jar.
Add sweetener if desired,  honey sugar maple syrup.
Lemon or other citrus if desired
When all the water had been removed, you may ass more to the existing resin. Again, let it rest for 12 hours.
This process may be repeated up to 3 times before replacing the resin at the bottom of the jar.

(Note: spent resin may still be collection and consumed.)

Mouth Wash and Gargles

Ingredients:
- Purified water
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp calcium carbonate
- 4 grams Frankincense resin powder- anti inflammatory
- 4 grams myrrh resin powder- anti bacterial
- Optional: peppermint leaves (to taste)

Directions:
Begin by brining 2 cups of water to a boil
Place 4 grams of frankincense resin and 4 grams Myrrh into a jar. Pour the heated water over resin (optional add peppermint leaves)
Stir and allow to cool.
Add salt, baking soda and calcium carbonate.
Close lid and shake for 1 minute.
Store in a cool dark place ( 1-2 weeks unrefrigerated; 3-4 weeks refrigerated) 

Note: 
Frankincense and Myrrh are not water soluble. Hot water is used to extract  constituents and help achieve a suspension.

Helpful tip:
Gargle and mouth washed can also be made from diluted tinctures. If using a tincture, start from the option part of step 2.

Tincture

Ingredients:
- Alcohol of choice ( at least 40% alcohol by volume)
- Frankincense Resin (finely ground or chopped)

Directions:
Begin by filling a glass jar with desired amount of resin
Add liquor/alcohol until at least two inches above the resin
Place parchment paper between the lid and jar, seal tightly.                  
(Parchment paper is uses to prevent the rubber seal from dissolving.)
Label jar with date, resin  and percentage of alcohol.
Place jar in cool dark place for 2-6 weeks. Shake two time per day.
Drape a damp cheesecloth over a funnel and place unto an amber glass bottle.
Pour tincture into funnel and allow to drip.
Store in a cool dark place. (Tinctures may last several years if stored properly

Warning: 
Never use industrial alcohol, methylated spirits  or rubbing alcohol in tinctures

Note: 
190 proof grain alcohol is typically used for dissolving gums and plant resins. While it more easily extracts the oils and aromatics in plants , it also makes for  a stronger tasting tincture,  which some people find hard to take.

Helpful tips: 
Adding 1 tsp.(5ml) of tincture to a small glass of boiling water and leaving it for 5 minutes allows alcohol to evaporate.
To make non-alcoholic tinctures, replace the alcohol with vinegar or glycerol.

Aromatherapy

Ingredients:
-  Frankincense resin tears or powder
-  Charcoal Puck (hookah coal)

Directions:
Light the edge of the charcoal. Puck with a lighter or match. When the sparkle, crackling and hissing sounds stop. The coal is lit.
Place your coal in a incense burner and allow it to sit for one minute. A fine layer of white ash covering the puck is a good indication it is well lit.               
Note: a thin layer of sand or tinfoil may be placed atop the coal to regulate heat.
Take a small piece of Frankincense tear resin size of a peanut and place it in the middle of the coal.  It will begin to release a Fragrant smoke.   

Warning: 
Never leave a lit charcoal unattended or close to flammable materials. Do not try to self diagnosis or attempt self-treatment for serious or long-term problems without first consulting a qualified medical herbalist or medical practitioner as appropriate.
